Timothy And Kathryn
“[Rainbow] is an amazing place where I get to see the horses and all of the people who work there,” Shares Timothy. He began riding in 2014, and three years later his sister Kathryn started riding at Rainbow too. She loves, “Bonding with horses (and humans), having fun and learning.”
Timothy and Kathryn have ridden many of the therapy horses here at Rainbow over the years and neither could pick a favorite. They love them all! The siblings have also attended several of our summer camps. At Rainbow, Kathryn has learned not just how to ride but also about caring for the horses. “[I’ve learned] how to trot and pick up poop. At camp one summer, I learned archery. I’ve also learned about the horses, and I feel safe with them.”
Their mother, Ashley, has enjoyed watching the two during their weekly lesson, “I think what I love the most as a parent is how the horses bring out this amazing side of my kids. I have such kind kids who love their horses and who treat their horses well, with gentleness and respect. They see this modeled in the kindness of the instructors and volunteers, too. Plus, they've also gained such confidence in themselves! Their resilience and sense of self worth has grown along with their skills.”
Although riding can be challenging, Timothy adds, “It’s worth the effort to be able to ride [the horses}.”
During a challenging year for everyone, Rainbow has been a bright spot. “I've been especially glad that they've been able to ride as much as they have over this past COVID year because it's been a safe and healthy outlet for them. I am enormously grateful for the staff, instructors and volunteers and all of the efforts they've made in order to continue offering lessons,” Shares Ashley.
Currently, Timothy has been working on improving his overall skills and Kathryn has goals of cantering, jumping, and to “Make friends with Marshmallow, the barn cat.”
It’s a joy to have these two at the farm and we can’t wait to see them reach more and more of their goals! Great work! And we’ll put in a good word for you with Marshmallow!
