Rider Spotlight - Conor
“I love riding and connecting with the horses,” say Conor.
Conor has been riding at Rainbow since 2017. In his years riding at Rainbow, his skills have improved impressively and he is currently working on cantering with his horse, Mesa. Conor shares, “I know a lot about [Mesa] and she knows a lot about me. We get along well.”
We love to see connections grow between our students and the therapy horses! Although he connects well with Mesa, Conor admits she is a “close second” to his all time favorite horse, Charlie. Charlie, who is now enjoying a well earned retirement from the program due to old age, was one of the first horses that Conor rode. “Charlie was a good beginner horse because he halted very well. He also got into the trot very smoothly...I was sad to see him [retire] but glad that he got to retire.”
Conor has a clear memory of each horse he has ridden, what each of them has taught him. In addition to riding, Conor has also learned to care for the horses on the ground and he enjoys both aspects of horsemanship.
We are excited to watch Conor continue to excel in his riding! His current goals are finding the correct diagonal when posting the trot and staying in the canter for a longer amount of time.
Great work Conor!
